Provincial government grants money to Picton Town Hill

Bay of Quinte MPP Todd Smith announced Saturday that the provincial government has granted $266,848 to Prince Edward County to put towards improvements for Picton Town Hill.

The money comes from the Connecting Links Program which is designed to help Ontario municipalities repair and improve municipal roadways and bridges that connect two ends of a provincial highway through a community or to a border crossing.

The county was approved for the funding based on a review of technical need, safety considerations, and cost effectiveness.

Improvements to Picton Town Hill will include updated signage, traffic control infrastructure, pedestrian crossings and line painting and the replacement of two retaining walls on Bridge and Main streets, which currently obstruct lines of sight for vehicles and pedestrians.

In 2019 and 2020 the City of Belleville’s Sagonaska Bridge replacement project was approved for up to $3 million in funding from the same grant stream.
