TOWN OF MAINE (WBNG) — The Greater Binghamton Airport will receive over $1 million in federal funding from the Airport Coronavirus Recovery Grant Program.
Commissioner of Aviation Mark Heefner says that the money comes at a time when the airline industry is struggling.
For the Greater Binghamton Airport, he says the money provides much needed relief to pay for operational costs.
With just one flight a day to Detroit, Heefner says the airport was in desperate need for funds.
“When we were told that we were getting the funding, we were ecstatic. It takes some of that struggle off of us as airport management as well as county taxpayers,” Heefner said.
The Greater Binghamton Airport is owned by Broome County.
